Point being that it supposedly being a big energy drain to stay in that form was quickly moved aside because he maintained for a long period of time (days, IIRC) and while using energy to create an important barrier. His form is not the background thing, his use of energy in that form is a background item that was already somewhat pushed to the backburner in the same arc it was introduced in (Dark Tournament). I highly doubt anyone else who has ever watched this series was distracted by that. Okay? You're way too hung up on the handsome thing. So at any point a studio doesn't adhere to what you identify as their strengths, it's dumb and wrong? Not to mention, it would have been a great excuse for Toei to animate some action shots with a different body type from the whole main cast, and a tremendous opportunity for Yusuke to punch a baby. In context, it’s actually harder to take Koenma seriously knowing he’s pointlessly wasting energy to put on a front. Like, I get that they think a talking baby can’t be used in a scene that’s “serious” or “cool,” but that’s dumb and wrong. Who is he trying to impress? It really seems like a situation where he should be using both his true form and his serious voice. Despite this, Koenma maintains his handsome form the entire time. Since Sensui worked for Koenma for decades, he’d know his true form and would already understand why he should be taken seriously. It’s very clearly established that maintaining this form requires a considerable amount of energy and concentration from Koenma, which is why he usually doesn’t hold it for very long.īut in the Chapter Black Saga, Koenma decides to take matters into his own hands against Sensui, a former employee of his. Even when explaining the demon tunnel situation to the humans, it’s excusable, since he’s been interacting with people who don’t know him, and the delinquents tend to have trouble taking him seriously anyway. He does it to interact with humans or demons outside his circle, so they’ll take him seriously. So, we know Koenma’s typical excuse for using his “handsome” metamorphosis.
